Home Economics & Sewing Room
Home Economics classes are taught in the kitchen and sewing room.
The sewing room is well resourced with it’s own computer and data projector. There are a number of sewing machines and other equipment that are used by the students when completing the textile studies element of the syllabus. A wide variety of cookery and craft books are available for use by the students.
The kitchen is used for practical cookery classes. This spacious and bright room was refurbished and is well equipped with modern appliances. The students work in groups during cookery classes at one of the nine individual units.
The Home Economic rooms have been decorated to foster and stimulate a positive learning environment. Both rooms are wheelchair friendly.
Salerno has two Art Studios located on the first floor. We have chosen to call our rooms art studios, as a studio refers to an artists work space. Both studios are bright, spacious and inspiring spaces. The students work is displayed on the walls on completion of projects, creating an evolving working space. Each year group is provided with their own storage shelf for their personal art folders. A wide variety of art, craft and design books are available for use by the students. Both studios are equipped with a data projector.
Career Guidance Office
Guidance and counselling helps students in Salerno with subject choice, career interests, course and college research, work experience preparation and study skills.
These activities blend with other subjects on the curriculum to support the student in developing a level of confidence and growth to achieve their potential.
The Salerno Science department is comprised of three fully fitted-out science laboratories including two adjoining experiment preparation rooms which are used for storage of all chemicals and equipment and also the assembly of materials required for class experiments. As we provide for four leaving certificate science subjects, namely Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Agricultural Science, we have divided the laboratories into those that are specialised for the teaching of physical sciences and those specialised for biological sciences. To ensure efficient running of our science department we have a laboratory technician who along with science department teachers oversee the maintenance, supply and disposal of chemicals and equipment.
