Salerno Secondary

Maths Olympiad Roll of Honour

This year, three Salerno Mathematicians signed up to partake in the Irish Maths Olympiad Training offered by University of Galway. The intensive training consisted of 7 Saturdays from 11-1pm. They were Laura Cassidy (LC), Elsa Nicola-Sofei (TY) and Aisling Walsh (TY). Well done to all of the students for attending and learning this very complicated high level maths!
Six centres around Ireland offered similar training. Once training was completed students were invited, should they wish, to sit two grueling 3 hour maths tests back to back. The top six achievers from the entire country then form the Irish Maths Olympiad Team going on to compete against teams from all around the globe. It is deemed the hardest maths competition for teenagers in the world.
Two of our Mathematicians were available to sit the test - 6 hours of maths - Laura and Elsa. Upon correction, a Roll of Honour list is created from the top 25% of achievers. This year, for the first time in the history of Salerno this included one of our students - Laura Cassidy.
We are so proud of Laura and this massive achievement! We hope this only inspires other students to follow those footsteps in years to come.
