All Girls Maths Competition

Congratulations to the 16 mathematicians from 5th and 3rd year, who took part in the very first Oldham All Girls Maths Competition on Tuesday May 12th in Taylors Hill. The inauguration of this worthy competition was held in UCD to encourage the participation of more girls in maths competitions. Mrs Keenan and Ms D King, Taylors Hill, jointly organised the Galway round. This was only held in Dublin and Galway this year, but following its massive success, we are hopeful it may be rolled out nationwide next year by the Irish Maths Teachers Association (IMTA).

Following a neck and neck series of 7 rounds, two of our teams finished joint second, pipped at the post by the overall winners Coláiste Bhaile Chláir. Well done to all involved and a special word of thanks to Mrs Keenan and Ms King, without whom no Galway contest would have been possible.

The four teams of four, a mix of two 5th and two 3rd years were:

5th Years : Mahadiya Ahmmed, Anushka Gupta, Kim Hackett, Aoife Grout, Clara Mantu, Aisling Egan, Tara Walsh, Damaris Agbor
3rd Years : Iseult O'Donnell, Méabh Houten, Emma Katona, Sonia Heininger, Isabella Donohue, Kowshikaa Raj, Varsha Senthilkumar, Ashley Ashitosh Waidande
