Wednesday 8 November 2023 The Importance of Sleep for our teenagers There is a free webinar taking place next Tuesday the 14th of November at 7pm called The importance of sleep for our teenagers. The main speaker is Lucy Wolfe and she will be giving some information and guidance around this topic. Lucy is best known for the books she has written on sleep for young children, but she has prepared some very useful material specifically for this webinar and the parents of teenagers.

Monday 23 October 2023 Mayor's Visit for Climate Action Week As part of the ongoing Climate Action Week, the newly elected members of the Salerno Student Council had a meeting with the mayor of Galway, Mayor Eddie Hoare. A key focus of the discussion was the City Council's proactive measures to enhance sustainability and combat climate change at the local level. The mayor elaborated on various initiatives, emphasising the significance of community involvement in these efforts. Additionally, he provided insights into fostering active citizenship and encouraged the students to engage in local politics, highlighting the impact of individual participation in shaping their community's future.

Monday 16 October 2023 Talk on Corncrakes as part of Climate Action Week As part of climate action week Ms Daly invited Patrick Fitzmaurice from Corncrake Life. Corncrake LIFE is a new project working with farmers and landowners to improve habitat for corncrakes in the Special Protection Area network and surrounding farmland. Patrick gave a very informative talk to some of our TY, 5th year and Leaving Cert students about the lifecycle of the corncrake, the dangers that it faces from modern farming practices and what we can do to save the corncrake from becoming extinct in Ireland.

Monday 9 October 2023 Heskin Cup Win! Our senior hockey team won the Heskin Cup today at Taylor's hill pitch. It was a one day tournament, we lost the first game against Seamount by one goal, and beat Sligo Grammar by one goal. In the semi final they beat the Jes on penalties, after a 0-0 match. Finally we went on to beat Seamount on penalties after a 1-1 match at full time.

Friday 6 October 2023 37th Irish Mathematical Olympiad On Thursday 21st September, 15 eager mathematicians participated in Round 1 of the 37th Irish Mathematical Olympiad. The top achieving mathematicians in this exam will receive a letter of invitation to participate in the Senior Maths Enrichment Programme in University of Galway.

Friday 6 October 2023 Maths Problem of the Week Congratulations to Leah Furey (Class 2) and Orna Dunne (Class 1) who jointly had the best estimate of the number of jelly beans in the jar. Both girls were only one off the correct number of 616. Students from each year can take part weekly in the maths problem, where prizes will be awarded at the end of each term.

Thursday 28 September 2023 U16 Football The U16 team made up of students from 2nd, 3rd and TY had a great win over the Jes with an impressive scoreline of 9-08 to 4-04. This was this teams first outing as a squad, so the future is bright for Salerno Football.

Sunday 14 May 2023 Dodgeball! Huge thank you to all the brave Leaving Cert students and teachers that took part in this years dodgeball game. The teachers fought a great battle and looked to have a super comeback on the cards but unfortunately lost out in the end to a more experienced dodgeball team.
